Update from the Stephen Geise family

submitted by Stephen & Gwen Geise

Greetings from Sunny South Africa.

We praise the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness to us throughout this year. Though this year has had it's share of difficulties we are encouraged as we meditate on the fact that God is good and He is always in control.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

We are all doing well and the work of God is going forward. Recently we publicly recognized four men as the spiritual leaders in our churches here in South Africa. We held a special service and near the end of the service had a time of prayer and laid our hands on them, commissioning them to the work of God. It was a blessed occasion, and we praise God for the developments and spiritual growth we see in many lives.

In two weeks we will have been here in South Africa another two years. We are in the process of making plans to return to the States near the end of November. We plan to begin having services in January, so if you would like for us to share with your church what God has been doing in our lives and in the work here please send us an e-mail soon. We will begin deputation in the Midwest in January and return to the East in February or March. We look forward to hearing from you.

Please keep us in your prayers as there is much to do in the next three months.

God bless you all.

Stephen, Gwen, Isaac, Micah, Titus and Shoshanah Geise

Newest HIM Missionaries - Michael & Daryl Hobbs

submitted by Office Staff

On August 24, Michael and Daryl Hobbs will be leaving Hobe Sound for the Turks & Caicos Islands to serve under Hope International Missions for a two-year term.

They will be pastoring the Blue Hills Lighthouse Church on the island of Providenciales (commonly known as "Provo"). They also will be visiting HIM's orphanage in Grand Riviere, Haiti, every four to six weeks to check on the orphans and provide assistance there.

A significant portion of the population of the Turks & Caicos Islands is made up of Haitians who have fled Haiti due to civil and economic unrest and more recently, the catastrophic earthquake that hit their country. Geographically, the islands are between Haiti and the US. (See maps.)

The Turks & Caicos Islands remain under British oversight, and the Hobbs' will be driving on the left side of the road! (Editor's note: If I had to learn to do this, I'd need a lot of prayer.)

We thank God for His leadership in the lives of Michael & Daryl. God still has His people who are willing to step outside of their comfort zones and abandom themselves to win the lost.

Please pray for the Hobbs' as they start this new chapter in their lives.

From the Motovilovs - Praises and a request

submitted by Valera & Maude Motovilov

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Yoshkar-Ola, Russia. Thank you so much for your prayers for our students and especially the meeting with Lily! In our discussion I explained the plan of salvation to her and she said she had confessed her sins a few weeks before and is now a Christian! She doesn't know a lot about what it means to be a Christian, so I will be keeping in contact with her to mentor her. She will soon be going back to the U.S. to attend another year of school at the Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. I will be meeting with her again at least one more time before she leaves.

This past week one of my beginner English students brought a new friend with her to class. Olga speaks pretty good English. When we finished the lesson and she was leaving, she asked if she could come again. I told her about the Sunday meeting and she came to that too. Again when she was leaving, she asked if she could come again. I told her to come on Thursday to the ladies' meeting. Thank you so much for praying for our students! God is really working in their hearts! We'd appreciate your continued prayers for them.

Maybe you heard that there have been a lot of forrest fires and even underground fires here in Russia because of the hot weather. It has been unusually hot for quite a few weeks now. As a result of these fires we are getting a lot of smoke through the city here. Please pray that it will rain and the fires will be put out soon.

Thank you for your concern and prayers for us and the ministry here. May God bless you!

In Christ,
Valera & Maude Motovilov
