From the Asian Region director

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

As my hair got gray and the knees got stiff, I became aware that my life is coming down to the finish line. There is a sense of joy, but a reality that I must work harder to do the will of my Father.

What season of life are you in? Complacency is the cancer of the church today. The church is filled with many good people. They are faithful to the services, pay their tithe, and are careful with their lifestyle. They are also interested with their appearance, materialistic things, retirement, and the best restaurant to go to next. Yet, we must pray over how we should get involved in a ministry or touching other lives.

I knew a woman who asked God to give her a ministry at 70 years old. He sent her a prison ministry. By the time she was put into a nursing home, she had 17,000 names of prisoners and their families to whom she regularly sent Bible studies and stayed in touch. What she could offer Jesus from the end of her life is so wonderful. She is one of my heroes. You see, the learned the secret -- she asked Jesus for a ministry.

I do not know your situation or the state of your health. I am not condemning but just challenging your thinking. Sometimes I feel people just don't know how to find a ministry. They would like to do something, but feel they cannot do anything. Yet Jesus did not ask us to occupy until He comes unless He can give us something to do.

Could I challenge you at the beginning of this new year to ask Jesus to lead you to a ministry?

Needed: a van

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

As the work expands, needs get greater. Our work at the Asia Center is expanding, and we need transportation for the workers. Before, the van was needed for the camp transportation, but now it is needed for all the Center ministries.

We have received $8,000 US dollars, but we still need about $13,000 more.

We would appreciate your prayers concerning this expense.

Nurtured by phone

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

For 16 years we traveled over china for the Outreach. We worked with many groups over the years. we were privileged to see a nation jump 70 years into the future. Our first impression of China was that it looked like Eastern Europe. Then as the years passed, China took big steps to becoming a modern country.

At one time communication was very antique and to call China was expensive. But now, calling China is easy and inexpensive. It has revolutionized our ministry.

We can now keep in touch with the people and works. In fact, it is becoming an instrument of nurturing and counseling.

There are several workers that use this ministry to help China. Many a heart has been lifted and encouraged this way.

Now through the web and email communications we are extending our ministries.

Have you ever considered using e-mail as a ministry for Jesus? Pray that God will give you an outreach ministry.

A visitor from China

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

One of our early believers was Ming Lee. Twelve years ago a young man visited a small hotel room that was filled with many young adults. He listened very intently, and when we prayed his face was shining. Later he told us that the Lord spoke to him and told him this was the true way. He visited us in early January, and was very impressed with the Christian community. He visited the American church and testified at the Chinese church. His visit was very refreshing to us.

God led him into marriage and family life, and today he is a good example among the Chinese people.

Even as a manager for Emerson, he has been working for Jesus. He is a house church leader and a strength among the workers in his area.

He has been an encouragement to us through the years.

Taiwan's outreach ministries

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

The Kaohsiung church has a wonderful musical outreach.

When Dr. McElwain was the pastor, he started an orchestra. Gloria Wang and Ivan Wang continued the orchestra after he left. They taught instruments to those interested and tutored others. Now they have a wonderful group of old and young people in the orchestra. They not only play for the church but also for outreach. They have played in parks as well as in weddings.

One of the challenging places was the Kaohsiung Juvenile Detention Center. The authorities reported that the inmates usually are disinterested and talk among themselves when they have guest speakers. However, for two hours they listened intently. Chungli now has a group going three times a month to a juvenile detention center in the North.

Pray that God will bless.

Jan-Feb newsletter features Chinese Outreach

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

During the year of 2010, every two months we will be highlighting a ministry of the Asian Region.

During these months, we would like you to pray for this ministry. Also, we trust that God will direct you to support one of our ministries.

In our New Year's letter, we expressed how we would like to partner with you as we reap the harvest of the world.

As His vessel, I am glad when Jesus speaks to me about doing something else to touch the world.

The Outreach Ministry has been at the very core of our ministry. Now, as it grows, we have had to divide our ministries. We need you to work beside us.

Behind the scenes

submitted by Jeanne Schwartz

Without those who work behind the scenes, the ministry could not go forward. One of those important individuals is Dr. Connie Palm. She is the one who developed our curriculum for the English Camps. It has been a valuable asset to our program. Every year, we know what to do for each theme and for three different levels. This makes it so easy for the new teachers each year. We wonder how we got along with it before.

Every year Dr. Palm and her group (One Small Candle) have made hundreds of beautiful and meaningful gifts to give to the children.

In reference to our literature ministry, she has blessed us with Is God Really My Father? I remember when one of our business ladies read it. She told us that for three years she had tried to read the Bible but did not understand it. She read this book and told us she then understood the meaning of the Bible. She gave us money to publish 5,000 and they were used to win 500 people to Jesus.

Now you can see what one dedicated person can do for Jesus. What are your gifts and talents? What are you doing with them? Contact us and we will help you make a difference for Jesus.

Reaching out builds your ministry

submitted by Darlene Edwards

"What gift can I give to the Baby? I could ask Father for a lamb, but that wouldn't be from me. It has to be something special," said the young shepherd boy. "I know! I'll give Him my heart," he decided and knelt at the manger. The young actors gathered around him and the Baby, singing "Take my life and let it be consecrated, lord, to Thee."

Directing a Christmas program in Chinese seems like an impossible task, but God gave us efficient translators through Joyce and Susan.

The adults rallied to prepare the props, including a new platform for the church. Ben, a student of clothing design, and Nancy spent many hours preparing costumes. May God use the message to reach our Chinese youth and adults for Christ.

As you read this, you can see how much the church is helped as the people rally to work together. This has been a wonderful byproduct to see the church working together and growing.

Maybe outreach can help your church to grow?
