Behind the scenes
Without those who work behind the scenes, the ministry could not go forward. One of those important individuals is Dr. Connie Palm. She is the one who developed our curriculum for the English Camps. It has been a valuable asset to our program. Every year, we know what to do for each theme and for three different levels. This makes it so easy for the new teachers each year. We wonder how we got along with it before.
Every year Dr. Palm and her group (One Small Candle) have made hundreds of beautiful and meaningful gifts to give to the children.
In reference to our literature ministry, she has blessed us with Is God Really My Father? I remember when one of our business ladies read it. She told us that for three years she had tried to read the Bible but did not understand it. She read this book and told us she then understood the meaning of the Bible. She gave us money to publish 5,000 and they were used to win 500 people to Jesus.
Now you can see what one dedicated person can do for Jesus. What are your gifts and talents? What are you doing with them? Contact us and we will help you make a difference for Jesus.

Jan-Feb newsletter features Chinese Outreach
During the year of 2010, every two months we will be highlighting a ministry of the Asian Region.
During these months, we would like you to pray for this ministry. Also, we trust that God will direct you to support one of our ministries.
In our New Year's letter, we expressed how we would like to partner with you as we reap the harvest of the world.
As His vessel, I am glad when Jesus speaks to me about doing something else to touch the world.
The Outreach Ministry has been at the very core of our ministry. Now, as it grows, we have had to divide our ministries. We need you to work beside us.

Taiwan's outreach ministries
The Kaohsiung church has a wonderful musical outreach.
When Dr. McElwain was the pastor, he started an orchestra. Gloria Wang and Ivan Wang continued the orchestra after he left. They taught instruments to those interested and tutored others. Now they have a wonderful group of old and young people in the orchestra. They not only play for the church but also for outreach. They have played in parks as well as in weddings.
One of the challenging places was the Kaohsiung Juvenile Detention Center. The authorities reported that the inmates usually are disinterested and talk among themselves when they have guest speakers. However, for two hours they listened intently. Chungli now has a group going three times a month to a juvenile detention center in the North.
Pray that God will bless.

A visitor from China
One of our early believers was Ming Lee. Twelve years ago a young man visited a small hotel room that was filled with many young adults. He listened very intently, and when we prayed his face was shining. Later he told us that the Lord spoke to him and told him this was the true way. He visited us in early January, and was very impressed with the Christian community. He visited the American church and testified at the Chinese church. His visit was very refreshing to us.
God led him into marriage and family life, and today he is a good example among the Chinese people.
Even as a manager for Emerson, he has been working for Jesus. He is a house church leader and a strength among the workers in his area.
He has been an encouragement to us through the years.

Nurtured by phone
For 16 years we traveled over china for the Outreach. We worked with many groups over the years. we were privileged to see a nation jump 70 years into the future. Our first impression of China was that it looked like Eastern Europe. Then as the years passed, China took big steps to becoming a modern country.
At one time communication was very antique and to call China was expensive. But now, calling China is easy and inexpensive. It has revolutionized our ministry.
We can now keep in touch with the people and works. In fact, it is becoming an instrument of nurturing and counseling.
There are several workers that use this ministry to help China. Many a heart has been lifted and encouraged this way.
Now through the web and email communications we are extending our ministries.
Have you ever considered using e-mail as a ministry for Jesus? Pray that God will give you an outreach ministry.

Needed: a van
As the work expands, needs get greater. Our work at the Asia Center is expanding, and we need transportation for the workers. Before, the van was needed for the camp transportation, but now it is needed for all the Center ministries.
We have received $8,000 US dollars, but we still need about $13,000 more.
We would appreciate your prayers concerning this expense.

From the Asian Region director
As my hair got gray and the knees got stiff, I became aware that my life is coming down to the finish line. There is a sense of joy, but a reality that I must work harder to do the will of my Father.
What season of life are you in? Complacency is the cancer of the church today. The church is filled with many good people. They are faithful to the services, pay their tithe, and are careful with their lifestyle. They are also interested with their appearance, materialistic things, retirement, and the best restaurant to go to next. Yet, we must pray over how we should get involved in a ministry or touching other lives.
I knew a woman who asked God to give her a ministry at 70 years old. He sent her a prison ministry. By the time she was put into a nursing home, she had 17,000 names of prisoners and their families to whom she regularly sent Bible studies and stayed in touch. What she could offer Jesus from the end of her life is so wonderful. She is one of my heroes. You see, the learned the secret -- she asked Jesus for a ministry.
I do not know your situation or the state of your health. I am not condemning but just challenging your thinking. Sometimes I feel people just don't know how to find a ministry. They would like to do something, but feel they cannot do anything. Yet Jesus did not ask us to occupy until He comes unless He can give us something to do.
Could I challenge you at the beginning of this new year to ask Jesus to lead you to a ministry?

WHEN WE STARTED the radio programs for China, we made a covenant with God: "As long as You send the finances, we will make the programs."
For 16 years we have closed in the "black." This year we owe about $6000.00.
I realize that the economy is very bad, but we know that God's economy is always on top.
Therefore, I take this as God's saying that it is time to end the broadcasts. I do realize that the internet, TV, and other media are very plentiful in China today.
I see God directing us to work more in other medias. We are on several internet broadcasts, and we have a website that has sermons, counseling, and Bible stories. We get thousands of visits on our website.
Only eternity will reveal how many found the Lord. Everyone who has prayed or given has a part in this work.
We have several projects God is leading us to do. Now we are at the point of training pastors and workers.
We have had to take the money to pay for the broadcasts from our Outreach Fund, and we have little left to pay for our other ministries.
Please pray for us.

Traveling in China
AFTER HOURS OF traveling, we landed in Hong Kong and then traveled on to China. One of our meetings was held the next day at 12:30. It was in one of the biggest communication companies in China. They took us to a classroom, where we were joined by the workers from the company.
There were about 25 to 30 people present. They were giving up their lunch hour to attend. It was such a good meeting. The Holy Spirit was there, and God dealt with hearts. After the message, some came to pray and to talk with us. I thank God for this opportunity.

That night, a group of about 10 came to discuss a center in China. Those in attendance were very interested in getting it started through HIM. I spoke to them of my vision. We then decided they needed to spend some time praying until God lays it on their hearts. I do not want it to be my vision alone but something each would own for himself.
We moved on to another city. I had an all-day meeting, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There were more than 70 in attendance; 22 were house-church leaders and co-workers. Their churches are spread throughout the city and the countryside. I cannot tell you how thrilled we were.
This was a new group that contacted us asking for help. That is a reason I feel God wants us to open a center, because there are workers all over China that want us to help train them. Can you see this wonderful opportunity for teaching holiness?
Please pray for our work in China.

Asia Ministries
THE FIRST YEAR Dorthy Hsu and I went to China, it was Christmas time. Everything was new to me; there was very little “touch” of Christmas. After going to bed on Christmas Eve, we decided to sing some carols. We sang a few songs, and then we began to sing, O Holy Night. “When we came to the phrase, “Long lay the world in sin and error pining,” God the Holy Spirit came and broke my heart with the vision of this ancient country that had been waiting for Jesus for so long. Although they had been touched by a period of Christianity, they were still hungering for the peace of God. Passion for this country was born; through radio, preaching, teaching, literature, and tapes, we have tried, in our small way, to wake them up to Jesus and holiness.
PURPOSE FOR EXISTENCE: It is the purpose of the Asian Region to walk in any open door to take Jesus to the lost, edify any believers, and train disciples to reach their own people.
